Emergency kit list for UK homes

You don't need to buy much. Keep these together in one box or bag that everyone in the house knows about.

The essentials

• Torch and spare batteries, or a wind-up torch
• Battery or wind-up radio
• Fully charged power bank and charging cables
• Bottled water: about 3 litres per person per day, for at least 3 days
• Food that needs no cooking, plus a manual tin opener
• First aid kit and a week of any prescription medicines
• Copies of important documents in a waterproof bag
• Printed list of key phone numbers
• Warm layers, blankets and waterproofs
• Some cash, in case card machines are down

Nice to have

• Portable power station for longer cuts or medical equipment
• Camping stove for outdoor use only
• Baby, pet or care supplies as needed
